Battle of Alberta: Flames at Oilers Tonight
The Calgary Flames visit the Edmonton Oilers at Rogers Place tonight at 6:30 p.m. MT on Prime. It's the first of four meetings this season, and the next one isn't until March, so bragging rights will have to last all winter.
The Oilers: Still Rolling
Edmonton sits at 8-2-2 after a 4-3 shootout loss to Detroit on Monday. Connor McDavid is doing McDavid things with 34 points, 8 goals and 26 assists, and Leon Draisaitl already has 12 goals.
The worry is Zach Hyman, who left Monday's game injured, with no update yet. The good news: Ekholm practised and may return.
The Flames: Don't Count Them Out
Calgary is 5-6-0, but don't let the record fool you. After an 0-5 start, the Flames have won four straight. Farabee leads the team with 11 points, Gridin has four goals, and Cooley is expected in net after winning his last four starts.
The smart money says Edmonton. But the Flames are playing hungry, and nothing tightens a Battle of Alberta like a team with something to prove.
CFL: Elks Eye the Grey Cup
The Edmonton Elks host the West Final on Nov. 7, and the Grey Cup comes to Calgary on Nov. 15. A Western final in Edmonton and a Grey Cup in Calgary. It doesn't get much more Alberta than that.
Halloween Week Across Alberta
Edmonton: DARK at Fort Edmonton Park, Deadmonton and Halloween drive-in films at the Valley Zoo.
Calgary: the Fright Crawl and Halloween at The Confluence.
Check each event's website for times and tickets before you head out, and with up to 15 cm of snow in the Edmonton area through Thursday, bundle up.
Alberta Craft Beer Takes Home Hardware
Alberta craft brewers picked up several national and provincial awards. Local businesses, built by Albertans, beating the competition. Raise a glass, responsibly, after the game tonight.
