Alberta got a hockey night to remember on Wednesday, football playoffs are almost here, and Halloween weekend has something going on from Grande Prairie down to Lethbridge. Here’s your sports, entertainment and events guide, city by city and game by game.

The Battle of Alberta: Oilers 4, Flames 0

The Edmonton Oilers shut out the Calgary Flames 4–0 at Rogers Place on Wednesday night, with Connor McDavid setting the NHL record for the longest season-opening assist streak.

McDavid’s two assists extended that streak to 13 games. He leads the league with 36 points, made up of eight goals and 28 assists. His point streak also stands at 13 games.

Mathieu Joseph opened the scoring in the first period, followed by Mattias Ekholm in the second. Kasperi Kapanen and Alex Formenton scored 21 seconds apart early in the third. Ryan Nugent-Hopkins added two assists, while Jason Dickinson returned after missing six games.

Tristan Jarry stopped all 24 shots for his first shutout of the season and his 24th in the NHL. Edmonton improved to 9–2–2, snapping its first two-game losing skid of the season. Calgary’s four-game winning streak ended, leaving the Flames at 5–7–0.

Flames injury watch: Goaltender Devin Cooley and forward Brennan Othmann left the game. Dustin Wolf took over in goal. No further post-game update was available in the supplied roundup.

Next up: Calgary hosts the Seattle Kraken at the Scotiabank Saddledome on Friday, October 30, at 6 p.m. MT.

WHL: The Central Division Is All Alberta and Very Tight

Only six points separate first and fifth in the October 29 standings snapshot. Edmonton has games in hand, while Lethbridge’s strong road record contrasts with its slow start at home.

  • Red Deer Rebels — 18 points; 8–4–1–1.

  • Calgary Hitmen — 16 points; 8–5–0–0.

  • Edmonton Oil Kings — 13 points; 6–4–1–0.

  • Medicine Hat Tigers — 13 points; 6–5–0–1.

  • Lethbridge Hurricanes — 12 points; 6–7–0–0.

For an energetic local hockey night, look at the schedules in Red Deer, Calgary, Edmonton, Medicine Hat and Lethbridge. Confirm home dates and ticket availability directly with the team.

CFL: Playoff Football Comes Home

Edmonton clinched first in the West with a 35–27 win over Winnipeg, reaching 13–4 at that point. Cody Fajardo ran for two touchdowns and threw for two more.

The Elks then lost their October 24 regular-season finale 16–9 to Saskatchewan, finishing 13–5. That updates the earlier 13–4 record in the supplied draft.

Edmonton hosts the Western Final on Saturday, November 7, at 5:30 p.m. MT at Play Alberta Field at Commonwealth Stadium. It will be the city’s first home playoff game since 2015.

The Elks will face the winner of the Western Semi-Final between the BC Lions and Saskatchewan Roughriders on Saturday, October 31. Tickets for Edmonton’s home final are available through the team’s official ticket channels.

Calgary’s Stampeders finished 9–9 and missed the playoffs. The city still gets the biggest game of the year.

113th Grey Cup: Calgary Takes Centre Stage

The Grey Cup takes place at McMahon Stadium on Sunday, November 15, at 5 p.m. MT.

Riley Green headlines halftime, Sarah McLachlan performs the national anthem, Blue Rodeo’s Jim Cuddy and Greg Keelor provide a pre-game performance, and the James Barker Band plays the SiriusXM Kickoff Show.

The game airs on TSN, CTV and RDS. If you are travelling to Calgary, plan accommodation and transportation ahead of Grey Cup week.
