UPDATE: Valleyview Girl, 7, Found Safe; Amber Alert Cancelled

UPDATE (11:45 AM MT, Oct 5): RCMP have cancelled the Amber Alert. Aspen Wilson has been found safe and the suspect is in custody.
A seven-year-old girl from Valleyview is missing, and every driver in Alberta is now part of the search. RCMP issued a province-wide Amber Alert at 10:15 a.m. Monday for Aspen Wilson, who police say was abducted from her home by her stepfather.

Who to look for
Aspen is four feet tall and slim, with curly, shoulder-length blond hair and blue eyes.
Police say she was taken by her stepfather, Alexander Stone, 28. He's described as six-foot-five and 185 pounds, with brown hair and hazel eyes. He's hard to miss.
The van
Stone is believed to be driving a grey 2004 Chevrolet Venture minivan with Alberta licence plate CWY 3459.
RCMP say he may be heading toward Slave Lake or Red Deer. That's two very different directions out of a town roughly 110 kilometres east of Grande Prairie. Slave Lake is east. Red Deer is a long drive south into central Alberta, and a run that way could take him through the Whitecourt area. Because the alert covers the entire province, a grey minivan with that plate is worth a second look anywhere, from a gas station in Fox Creek to a parking lot off the QEII.
What to do if you see them
Do not approach Stone, Aspen or the vehicle. Call 911 immediately. You can also reach RCMP at 310-RCMP. Updates will come through Alberta Emergency Alert, so keep an eye on your phone and the radio.
If you're in the Peace Country or anywhere along the routes to Slave Lake and Red Deer, check dash cams, yard cameras and business security footage from Monday. A timestamp and a direction of travel can matter as much as a sighting.
Northern Alberta has been here before
This isn't the first Amber Alert out of the Grande Prairie region this year. In July, Beaverlodge RCMP issued one for six-year-old Lanakai Morrison. That alert was cancelled after a few days, but the investigation didn't stop. In September, after about two and a half months of work, Lanakai and another child were found safe in West Kelowna, B.C., and two adults were arrested on outstanding warrants.
That case ended well. The goal now is to end this one a lot faster.
The take
Rural Alberta doesn't have a cop on every corner. Detachments cover huge territory, and the highways between Valleyview, Slave Lake and Red Deer run through a lot of empty country. The best force multiplier police have today is ordinary Albertans paying attention: truckers, oilfield crews, farmers, gas station clerks and anyone with a dash cam.
So share the plate. Look twice at grey minivans. Don't play hero, just make the call. CWY 3459. Let's bring Aspen home.
