Alberta Politics
Ottawa's $18B separation files. CBC published overnight ATIP material from Finance Canada (dated June 2026) modelling an Alberta exit: possible $18-billion annual fiscal shock, head-office flight, skilled-worker outflow, and CPP opt-out wording flagged as "flawed." PCO said Alberta is "stronger as part of a united Canada." Oct. 19 Option 2 only starts a later binding referendum process — but Ottawa is gaming the stakes.
