Here's what moved since this morning's roundup — crime, politics, sports and weather.

Crime Across Alberta

Calgary — CPS still needs eyes on East Village pair. LiveWire Calgary recirculated Sunday that homicide investigators are still asking the public to identify a man and a woman tied to Friday night's fatal stabbing on the 500 block of Seventh Avenue S.E. Police say two men who knew each other fought around 7:00 p.m. Oct. 2; one produced a knife. The suspect fled and remains at large. Staff Sgt. Mark Rahn called it a "brazen act of violence." Autopsy still set for Tuesday, Oct. 6. Case CA26452863/4786. Tips: 403-266-1234 or Crime Stoppers.

Calgary — AHS STEC outbreak linked to Kinjo Mahogany. Alberta Health Services is investigating a gastrointestinal illness outbreak associated with Kinjo Sushi & Grill–Mahogany (#200, 7 Mahogany Plaza S.E.). Four confirmed and two probable cases of Shiga toxin-producing E. coli (STEC) are tied to people who ate there on or around Sept. 18; exposure window also covers Sept. 19. A Sept. 28 inspection found no critical violations; the restaurant remains open while the investigation continues. Symptoms: call 811.

Alberta Politics

Sexsmith / County of Grande Prairie — data-centre permit, Monday bylaw rewrite. CBC Edmonton reported Sunday that on Sept. 4 the county administratively approved a permit for a "data processing establishment" southwest of Sexsmith (Emerson Trail / 732041 Range Road 62): five accessory buildings, 15 generators, 15 cooling units. Reeve Amanda McDonald says the 2003 land-use bylaw treated data processing as a permitted rural industrial use with no resident notice required — and council cannot revoke the permit now. Alberta's Land and Property Rights Tribunal received 107 appeals and must schedule a hearing within 30 days. On Monday, Oct. 5, council is set to discuss stripping data processing as a permitted use and creating a dedicated district; future applications go to the municipal planning commission with resident notice. Full standalone already live on Alberta Radio.

Federalists press Carney on the other nine questions. Stay-side organizers say Ottawa has been clear against independence but soft on Premier Danielle Smith's nine other Oct. 19 questions (immigration, constitutional opt-outs, program eligibility). Alberta's Voice's Stephen Carter called the nine a "stick in the eye" to Ottawa; Angus Reid recently put support for those reforms roughly 48–62% depending on the question. PMO: Carney says Canada and Alberta are "stronger together." Calgary Confederation MP Corey Hogan: "no official position" from Ottawa on each of the nine. Fifteen days to the ballot.

Sports

Flames — at Seattle tonight, first win still missing. Calgary (0–2–0) closes its West Coast swing at Climate Pledge Arena Sunday, 6:00 p.m. MT on Sportsnet. Rematch four days after Seattle's 6–1 win at the Saddledome; Flames blew a 1–0 third-period lead in Vancouver Saturday and have been outscored 10–2 through two games. Capt. Mikael Backlund: "We've just got to be smarter" after 10 combined power-play chances against. Dustin Wolf is likely in net. Joel Farabee is slated for his 500th NHL game; Kevin Bahl his 300th. Calgary is 7–1–1 all-time in Seattle.

Hitmen — 7–4 over Lethbridge; Pats at the 'Dome. Calgary Hitmen stayed perfect (4–0) Saturday with a 7–4 win in Lethbridge — first 4–0 start since 2009–10. Penguins prospect Carter Sanderson posted his first career hat trick (four points). Hitmen host the Regina Pats Sunday at Scotiabank Saddledome, 2:00 p.m. Full recap live on Alberta Radio.

Regional note

Medicine Hat — Amazon at Ogilvie mill heads to council Monday. City council Monday considers changing 1222 Allowance Ave. (historic Ogilvie Flour Mill) to Industrial Operations Minor for an Amazon package distribution/sorting hub: about 19,000 sq ft warehouse, two daily line-haul semis around 4–5:30 a.m., about 25 delivery trucks, 50-plus full-time jobs (up to 30 more seasonal). Planning staff recommend approval; no exterior heritage changes planned.

That's the midday book. Flames need a win in Seattle; Sexsmith's permit fight hits county chambers Monday. Stay loud.
