Alberta Radio | Friday, October 9, 2026 | Morning edition | Regular gasoline prices in cents per litre (¢/L). Source timestamps are shown below; prices can change during the day.

Drivers heading into the Thanksgiving weekend have a strong reason to compare nearby pumps. Calgary’s reported regular-gas average was 169.9¢/L at 7:15 a.m. MT, while Edmonton’s was 166.2¢/L at 8:10 a.m. MT. Lower-priced stations were available in both areas, but online coverage was less current for several regional communities.

Calgary and Edmonton: this morning’s reported prices

Calgary: CheapGasCalgary reported 169.9¢/L across 282 stations with reports from the previous 36 hours. Its median was 172¢/L. Buffalo Run Costco appeared at 140¢/L, with two address entries that should not be assumed to represent two separate locations. Tsuut’ina Gas at 5898 Weaselhead Road was reported at 142¢/L early today; the Tsuut’ina Gas Stop at 9915 Chiila Boulevard also showed 142¢/L, reported Thursday evening. A 7-Eleven at 5310 17 Avenue SE showed 158¢/L this morning.

Edmonton: CheapGasEdmonton reported 166.2¢/L across 263 stations with reports from the previous 36 hours. Its latest low-price listing was Esso at 16002 114 Avenue, at 143¢/L. An earlier CheapGasCanada snapshot, timestamped 11:10 a.m. UTC (5:10 a.m. MT), listed Costco at 10220 186 Street NW at 142¢/L. The two snapshots do not establish which station is cheapest now; check the latest report and pump display before travelling.

Across Alberta: what can be verified for 10 communities

The regional figures below are not a same-time ranking. Weekly estimates are background benchmarks, while unavailable means we could not verify a current local price from the sources accessed this morning.

Calgary — 169.9¢/L reported average, October 9 at 7:15 a.m. MT; 282 reporting stations. Edmonton — 166.2¢/L reported average, October 9 at 8:10 a.m. MT; 263 reporting stations.

Red Deer — approximately 153.4¢/L, a weekly benchmark displayed by Gazo for the week of October 7. Gazo had no recent station-specific reports, so this is not a confirmed October 9 pump price.

Leduc — today’s local average could not be verified. The accessible CheapGasEdmonton page was timestamped October 3, despite its live-prices heading. Another directory lacked clear current report times and displayed inconsistent price units. Those figures were excluded from today’s comparison.

Fort McMurray — today’s local price could not be verified. Gazo displayed approximately 164.1¢/L, but explicitly identified it as an Edmonton weekly benchmark used as a substitute. It is not a Fort McMurray city average.

Grande Prairie — approximately 160.4¢/L, a weekly benchmark displayed by Gazo for the week of October 7. No recent station-specific prices were available on that page.

High River — today’s local price could not be verified. An accessible directory showed an average without a clear current timestamp and an old station entry; it was not used as a same-day price.

Lethbridge — approximately 162.0¢/L, a weekly benchmark displayed by Gazo for the week of October 7. The page had no recent station-specific reports.

Medicine Hat — today’s local price could not be verified. Gazo displayed approximately 161.4¢/L but labelled it as a Lethbridge weekly proxy. Its value also differed slightly from the Lethbridge page accessed during this check, reinforcing why it should not be treated as a Medicine Hat pump reading.

Brooks — today’s local price could not be verified from the accessible sources. No number has been substituted from another city or an older news story.

Forecasts disagree: use actual local reports for a fill-up decision

CheapGasCalgary’s morning model suggested a drop of roughly 6¢/L by Sunday. CheapGasCanada also displayed a wait-if-you-can outlook for Edmonton, with an expected 8¢/L reduction. These are forecasts, not guaranteed savings.

Other forecasts differed materially. Gas Wizard displayed October 9 regular-gas predictions of 142.9¢/L for Calgary and 141.9¢/L for Edmonton. Canadians for Affordable Energy’s Calgary page displayed 144.9¢/L for October 9.

Those predictions sit below the community-reported averages above and should not be combined with them or presented as verified citywide pump prices. Gas Wizard and Canadians for Affordable Energy are also linked through Dan McTeague, so their pages are not independent confirmation.

The provincial fuel-tax holiday is in effect

Alberta’s government says the full provincial fuel tax was suspended starting October 1 through the end of 2026, removing the 13¢/L provincial charge on gasoline and diesel. On 50 litres, that tax component equals $6.50. It does not freeze the total pump price: changes in other price components can offset a tax reduction.

Natural Resources Canada explains that crude costs, wholesale markets and retail competition affect gasoline prices. Kalibrate says its daily survey covers retail gasoline and diesel in 70 cities and is normally posted around 2 p.m. Eastern, or noon Mountain. We did not obtain a readable October 9 regional survey during this morning check, and have not claimed a verified provincewide average.

Make the cheaper fill-up count

A 10¢/L saving on 50 litres is $5; 20¢/L is $10. Compare stations on your route and account for the fuel and time a detour consumes. Confirm regular versus premium or diesel, membership requirements, public access and the posted pump price. Do not let a forecast leave you short of fuel.

Sources and reporting notes

This Alberta Radio report draws on the linked fuel trackers, regional benchmark pages, forecast providers, Alberta government information, Natural Resources Canada and Kalibrate. Gazo’s weekly figures are attributed to Gazo; its underlying weekly data were not independently verified against a readable federal table.

Community reports can lag actual price changes. Calgary CityNews and rdnewsNOW gas-price pages were also checked but did not expose usable timestamped prices in the retrieved text. GasBuddy regional pages could not be accessed, so no inaccessible GasBuddy figure is presented as verified.
