Alberta Gas Prices — October 8, 2026: Morning Price Check & Outlook
ALBERTA RADIO | Morning Fuel Report | Thursday, October 8, 2026 | Prices in Canadian cents per litre
Alberta drivers have a wide range of prices to consider this morning. Dated tracker snapshots put regular gasoline at an average of 171.2¢/L in Calgary and 167.1¢/L in Edmonton, while individual station reports sit considerably lower. Across the other eight communities in our Alberta Radio fuel watch, the available evidence ranges from weekly benchmarks to forecasts—and, in some cases, no fresh local price we could verify.
This report separates those measures so readers can compare like with like. A forecast is not a confirmed pump price, a weekly average is not a live station quote, and an older listing should not be treated as today's price. Figures reflect the source pages available during our October 8 morning check.
Alberta gas prices: the ten-community check
Community | Regular gasoline | Evidence and timing |
Calgary | 171.2¢ average; 140.0¢ lowest recent report | CheapGasCalgary, Oct. 8, 7:15 a.m. MT |
Edmonton | 167.1¢ average; 144.0¢ lowest recent report | CheapGasEdmonton, Oct. 8, 7:10 a.m. MT |
Red Deer | 152.8¢ weekly benchmark | Gazo, week of Oct. 7; no recent station reports |
Leduc | Fresh local price not verified | Tracker's visible snapshot is dated Oct. 3 |
Fort McMurray | Fresh local price not verified | Available Gazo figure uses an Edmonton proxy |
Grande Prairie | 156.9¢ at Costco, 9901 116 Street | GasWiser station report shown as about 10 hours old |
High River | Fresh local price not verified | Available listings lacked a usable current timestamp |
Lethbridge | 162.0¢ weekly benchmark | Gazo, week of Oct. 7; no recent station reports |
Medicine Hat | Observed local price not verified | 142.9¢ forecast for Oct. 8; see outlook below |
Brooks | Fresh local price not verified | Retailer location confirmed; no pump price displayed |
These entries should not be ranked as a single list of today's cheapest cities. They describe different measures and reporting periods. The station reports are online observations rather than a guarantee of the price at arrival; membership conditions and individual station changes may apply.
Calgary and Edmonton: a big gap between averages and low reports
CheapGasCalgary's 7:15 a.m. snapshot uses 284 stations with reports from the preceding 36 hours. Its lowest recent report is 140.0¢/L at Costco, 12901 Buffalo Run Boulevard. That is 31.2 cents below the tracker average. On an illustrative 50-litre fill, the difference between those two prices is $15.60.
CheapGasEdmonton's 7:10 a.m. snapshot uses 271 stations over the same reporting window. Its lowest report is 144.0¢/L at Mobil, 4950 137 Avenue NW—23.1 cents below the average, or $11.55 over 50 litres. Those savings examples compare published prices; they do not account for travel costs or guarantee availability.
Central and northern Alberta: check the age of the listing
For Red Deer, Gazo lists a regular-gasoline weekly benchmark of 152.8¢/L for the week of October 7, attributed by the site to Natural Resources Canada data. Its page does not show recent station reports. Treat that as a weekly reference, not a price promised at a particular pump.
Leduc's CheapGasEdmonton page shows a 150.0¢/L average, but its visible timestamp is October 3 at 8:10 p.m. MT. We have kept that older figure out of the current-price column. Its low listing also points to a Costco in Nisku, which should not be mistaken for a verified Leduc city price this morning.
Grande Prairie has a more recent individual listing: GasWiser shows Costco at 9901 116 Street at 156.9¢/L, with the report displayed as about 10 hours old during our check. We are not calling it the city's verified minimum because the same aggregator mixes fresh and much older reports.
For Fort McMurray, Gazo's displayed weekly reference is explicitly an Edmonton proxy. Alberta Radio has excluded it as a local price. A fresh Fort McMurray station quote remains unverified in this edition.
Southern Alberta: weekly references and reporting gaps
Lethbridge's Gazo page lists 162.0¢/L for regular gasoline for the week of October 7, again as a weekly benchmark rather than a recent station observation. Medicine Hat's Gazo reference uses Lethbridge as a proxy, so it is not presented here as a Medicine Hat pump average.
High River listings available during our check did not provide a reliable current timestamp. In Brooks, the Flying J retailer page confirms its location at 1260 Cassils Road East but does not display a usable fuel price. For both communities, check a fresh station report or contact the retailer before choosing where to fill.
Price outlook: forecasts, not confirmed pump prices
Canadians for Affordable Energy publishes the following forecasts for Thursday, October 8. These numbers are separate from the observed tracker snapshots above and should not be read as citywide prices already available at every station.
City | Regular | Premium | Diesel |
Calgary | 144.9¢ | 171.9¢ | 218.9¢ |
Edmonton | 141.9¢ | 170.9¢ | 215.9¢ |
Medicine Hat | 142.9¢ | 169.9¢ | 224.9¢ |
There is a source disagreement in Calgary: GasWizard lists a 142.9¢/L regular-gasoline forecast for October 8, while Canadians for Affordable Energy lists 144.9¢/L. Both feature Dan McTeague's forecasts, so they should not be counted as independent confirmation. Edmonton's 141.9¢/L forecast agrees across those two pages.
CheapGasCalgary separately anticipates an approximately eight-cent drop by Saturday, while CheapGasEdmonton anticipates about six cents. Those are tracker forecasts, not guaranteed savings. Canadians for Affordable Energy's Friday outlook keeps regular gasoline unchanged in Calgary and Edmonton while forecasting diesel increases of six and four cents respectively.
Alberta Radio's fill-up advice
Compare prices nearby and look at the report time before driving across town. A ten-cent-per-litre difference saves $5 on a 50-litre fill; a long detour can eat into that saving. CAA identifies crude oil, refining, taxes, supply and demand, and local market competition as factors behind retail prices.
GasBuddy's city or postal-code search can help locate station reports. Kalibrate also conducts a daily survey across 70 Canadian cities, with publication around 2 p.m. Eastern—useful context for why a morning report may rely on an earlier official benchmark. Alberta Radio will continue to distinguish reported prices, averages and forecasts in its fuel coverage.
