Alberta Gas Prices: October 17, 2026 Update and Diesel Correction

Alberta Radio’s revised Saturday gas-price update separates October 16 city averages from the cheapest station prices found on October 17. Edmonton’s latest supplied average was 149.2¢/L, while its lowest station listing found today was 132.9¢ at Costco on 50 Street NW. Calgary’s average was 156.0¢, with a 138.9¢ Costco listing on Buffalo Run Boulevard.
The dates matter: the averages below describe October 16, not a live October 17 city-wide survey. The station prices were found in today’s check. All regular gasoline figures are cents per litre. Costco prices are for members only, and all pump prices should be confirmed at the station.
Alberta gas prices: city averages and today’s station listings
City | Oct 16 average | Daily change | Cheapest found Oct 17 | Station / address |
|---|---|---|---|---|
Edmonton | 149.2¢ | −2.6¢ | 132.9¢ | Costco, 13650 50 St NW |
Red Deer | 149.5¢ | −0.2¢ | 143.9¢ | Costco, 162 Leva Ave |
Lloydminster | 149.9¢ | −0.3¢ | None found | — |
Calgary | 156.0¢ | −0.7¢ | 138.9¢ | Costco, 12905 Buffalo Run Blvd |
Grande Prairie | 157.6¢ | −0.3¢ | 149.9¢ | Costco, 9901 116 St |
Lethbridge | 157.8¢ | −1.5¢ | 152.9¢ | Costco, 3200 Mayor Magrath Dr S |
Medicine Hat | Not available | — | 154.9¢ | Costco, Box Springs Blvd |
Okotoks | Not available | — | 154.9¢ | Costco, Southbank Blvd |
“None found” means no cheapest-station price was available in the supplied check; it does not mean a city has no lower-priced stations. Medicine Hat and Okotoks have station listings but no city average in this update.
Edmonton and Calgary: the lowest listings in the check
Edmonton’s October 16 average was 149.2¢/L, down 2.6¢. Costco at 13650 50 Street NW was listed at 132.9¢ in today’s station check. Calgary’s October 16 average was 156.0¢, down 0.7¢, with Costco at 12905 Buffalo Run Boulevard listed at 138.9¢ today.
These city averages and individual station prices cover different dates and samples. They should not be treated as a like-for-like measure of what an entire city is charging this morning.
Red Deer, Lloydminster and northern Alberta
Red Deer’s October 16 average was 149.5¢/L, down 0.2¢. Today’s lowest listing found was 143.9¢ at Costco, 162 Leva Avenue. Lloydminster’s average was 149.9¢, down 0.3¢, but no lowest station price was found in the supplied check.
Grande Prairie averaged 157.6¢/L on October 16, down 0.3¢. The Costco listing found today at 9901 116 Street was 149.9¢.
Southern Alberta: Lethbridge, Medicine Hat and Okotoks
Lethbridge’s October 16 average was 157.8¢/L, down 1.5¢. Costco at 3200 Mayor Magrath Drive South was listed at 152.9¢ today. Medicine Hat’s Costco on Box Springs Boulevard and Okotoks’ Costco on Southbank Boulevard both showed 154.9¢. No city average was supplied for Medicine Hat or Okotoks.
Diesel correction: earlier low listings are unreliable
The supplied diesel sources disagree substantially. Kalibrate places diesel at approximately 227–240¢/L across Alberta, while the Costco tracker shows approximately 208–214¢. These ranges cover different sources and should not be blended into one provincial average.
Both ranges are far above the roughly 160¢ diesel lows carried in earlier CheapGas-based digests. Those earlier diesel lows should be treated as unreliable and should not guide a fuel purchase. This update replaces that earlier guidance with the conflicting source ranges and a recommendation to confirm diesel prices directly at the pump.
Why this update replaces the earlier CheapGas comparison
The morning briefing reported that CheapGas had stopped updating early Friday and was working with roughly 60 stations per city instead of its usual 250 or more. Its reduced-sample averages were not suitable for a direct comparison with the previous day. This revised article therefore leads with the supplied dated city averages and today’s station findings, with the reporting dates kept explicit.
The earlier morning check also put GasBuddy at 155.6¢/L for Calgary and 148.2¢ for Edmonton, with CAA’s national average at 172.6¢. Those are separate provider readings and are not substituted for the October 16 averages in the revised table. Provider samples and update windows can differ.
Before travelling for a cheaper fill
Costco fuel prices in this update require membership. Check the station’s opening hours, the fuel grade and the pump price before purchasing. A 10¢/L difference saves $5 on a 50-litre fill, so weigh any detour against that saving.
The station listings are the cheapest found in the supplied check, not a guarantee that every station was surveyed or that the price will remain unchanged throughout the day.
Sources and reporting notes
This article uses the revised figures supplied to Alberta Radio on October 17, 2026. City averages are dated October 16; lowest station listings were found October 17. Diesel ranges are attributed to Kalibrate and the Costco tracker in the supplied update. The readings have not been independently reverified at publication. Sources named across the morning research include GasBuddy, CAA, Kalibrate and CheapGas; the CheapGas feed limitation is stated above.
