Good morning, Alberta. It's Friday, October 2, 2026, and here is your Alberta Radio Crime Watch: the stories police and the courts are talking about across the province this morning.

None of the charges below have been proven in court. Everyone named is presumed innocent until proven guilty.

Edmonton: Canada-wide warrants for father of missing kids

Edmonton police have issued Canada-wide arrest warrants for 42-year-old Scot MacDermid. He faces two counts of abduction in contravention of a custody order, one for his nine-year-old daughter Lesley and one for his six-year-old son George. CBC reports the charge applies when a parent allegedly takes or hides a child under 14 in violation of a custody or parenting order.

The three were reported missing on September 8. MacDermid was last seen at Manning Town Centre in northeast Edmonton on August 28. Investigators later learned he and the children were seen in Lloydminster that same evening, around 6:30 p.m., with a man police have since identified and spoken to.

MacDermid is described as 5'5", about 160 pounds, with brown hair and blue eyes. If you know where Scot, Lesley or George are, call Edmonton police at 780-423-4567 or dial pound-377 from a mobile phone.

Central Alberta: Cocaine, cash and an Uzi-style gun seized

A Red Deer RCMP investigation that began in March has ended with two men charged. On September 10, officers carried out seven search warrants in Red Deer, Innisfail, Airdrie and a rural area north of Sundre, covering three homes, a business, two camper trailers and a vehicle.

Police say they seized more than six kilograms of cocaine, more than $280,000 in cash, over 1.4 kilograms of psilocybin mushrooms, more than 600 grams of methamphetamine, an Uzi-style submachine gun, three handguns and ammunition.

Rory Brand, 37, of Airdrie faces charges including possession for the purpose of trafficking, possession of proceeds of crime over $5,000, several firearms offences and tampering with a firearm serial number. He was remanded into custody. Robert Newell, 43, of Red Deer is charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking and proceeds of crime over $5,000, and was released with conditions. Both were scheduled to appear in Alberta Court of Justice in Red Deer on Thursday.

Fort McMurray: Tip leads to arrest in downtown arsons

Last week we told you Wood Buffalo RCMP were asking for help identifying a suspect in a string of fires set in downtown Fort McMurray in the early hours of September 19. A resident recognized the clothing in the police photos and called it in on September 27.

Chelsea L'Hommecourt, 36, was arrested September 28. She faces three counts of arson and one count of theft of a vehicle. RCMP also linked her to an arson in Fort McKay in May. She remains in custody.

Edmonton: Man charged with threatening PM Carney online

RCMP Federal Policing's Integrated National Security Enforcement Team has charged 44-year-old Dwight Peter MacIntyre of Edmonton with uttering a death threat against Prime Minister Mark Carney on the social media platform X. The investigation began in early September. MacIntyre is scheduled to appear in Edmonton court on November 25.

"People should not assume they can make threats online without consequences," said Supt. Matt Johnson. It's the second such Alberta case in weeks; a Calgary man was arrested last month over alleged threats against Carney on YouTube.

Sherwood Park: ALERT lays AI child exploitation charge

ALERT's Internet Child Exploitation unit has charged Christopher Kalbfleisch, 51, of Sherwood Park with making child sexual abuse material. Police allege he used AI apps to sexualize photos and videos of multiple victims known to him, some taken from open social media accounts. He was first arrested in June on possession, access and distribution charges.

He is out on conditions, including no contact with anyone under 16, and is due in court October 16. ICE is still working to identify victims. Information can go to local police or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

Calgary: Prolific offender faces 32 charges

Calgary police say Logan Donald Smith, 29, was wanted on 10 warrants when officers arrested him September 16 at a new-home construction site in the 4800 block of Voyageur Drive N.W. Police seized a sawed-off shotgun with a defaced serial number and ammunition. He faces 32 charges, including 13 counts of breaching a release order, and remains in custody.

Calgary police are also asking for help identifying a man who broke into a garage in the 1700 block of 35 Avenue S.W. on August 22 and stole a fat bike. He's about 5'7" with brown hair and was wearing a blue MRU hoodie and patchwork-style pants. Call 403-266-1234 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

That's your Alberta Radio Crime Watch for Friday. If you have information on any of these cases, contact police or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477. Stay safe, Alberta.
